Email phones that can rival the Blackberry range

Tuesday, March 9th, 2010

The Blackberry is the most famous email phone in the world. But in this modern age, have other phones caught up? Can other phones now beat the humble Blackberry at its own game? Let’s find out.

HTC Snap – ‘Inner Circle’

First up is Windows Mobile, and today, it’s to be found in the body of the HTC Snap. Anyone who’s used Windows Mobile before will know it’s exceptionally good at emails and info management, and the HTC Snap is no exception to that rule. You get the same excellent POP3 and Exchange Server (for your corporate emails) support, but the HTC Snap also includes something new: Inner Circle. This is a new feature for the HTC Snap, that lets you set an Inner Circle of friends or important people, and automatically prioritises emails from them, to make sure you get the emails that matter the most, first.

HTC Magic – tight integration with GoogleMail

Next up is the Android contender, in this case, the HTC Magic. What it brings to the party is incredibly tight integration with Google’s services; and yes, that includes GoogleMail. The HTC Magic makes receiving emails on your GoogleMail (or Gmail, if you’re in the States) account, and the tight integration really is a sight to behold.

Palm Pre – tight integration with EVERYTHING

However, both the HTC Snap, with its Inner Circle feature, and the HTC Magic, with tight Google integration, are outdone by a new phone that integrates so much more, even more tightly than the Magic. It is, of course, the Palm Pre, and it can integrate your GoogleMail service, too. And your Exchange Server for corporate emails. And Facebook for your personal friends. Basically, there’s never been a phone as well connected as the Palm Pre; it makes it so very easy to link up services from all those email behemoths, and more, in one device. The Palm Pre is easily the best on this list, but the original question was whether it can beat the Blackberry range. Well, alas, no. The Palm Pre may be good, but if your sole concern is email, there is still only one name you go for. And that’s Blackberry, with their revolutionary instant ‘push’ emails. In email terms, Blackberry are just THAT good.
