Palm Pre Hardware and Comments

I saw a dummy of the Palm Pre. I liked it. It felt good in the hand, was light, was round (unlike the iphone's more square shape), and was smaller than the iphone. I didn't get a chance to see the software, though, because it was a dummy. The device, however, is Linux based. This means that anyone can develop for it once Palm releases the SDK – and because it's linux based, it may even run Android DON'T QUOTE ME ON THAT, I'M JUST SPECULATING THE POSSIBILITIES. Platforms like Android and Palm's web OS though are truly open, especially Android, and no app approval process is needed. This is where Apple falls short. I know why they are trying to approve apps, but in a way I think it cuts back on the potential of the device & software. Jailbreaking, or freeing as I like to call it, the iphone would allow for greater potential. However, there are side effects. It is these side effects that make me nervous about doing it.
