Palm Pre Hardware and Comments

I saw a dummy of the Palm Pre. I liked it. It felt good in the hand, was light, was round (unlike the iphone's more square shape), and was smaller than the iphone. I didn't get a chance to see the software, though, because it was a dummy. The device, however, is Linux based. This means that anyone can develop for it once Palm releases the SDK – and because it's linux based, it may even run Android DON'T QUOTE ME ON THAT, I'M JUST SPECULATING THE POSSIBILITIES. Platforms like Android and Palm's web OS though are truly open, especially Android, and no app approval process is needed. This is where Apple falls short. I know why they are trying to approve apps, but in a way I think it cuts back on the potential of the device & software. Jailbreaking, or freeing as I like to call it, the iphone would allow for greater potential. However, there are side effects. It is these side effects that make me nervous about doing it. Anywho that's the video. :) Enjoy.

My glasses have such powerful magnification that, when looked at through the reverse angle, they make me look Asian. I can assure you I’m not.

informal video but i think you should open your eyes

Jailbreak the iphone/pod touch and put Linux on it, that’s what I would do if i ever had one of those.

it’d have to be including the softphone software (no longer iphone, it’s LPhone once Linuxed) or making/receiving calls would be impossible.

  4. rml695 says:

The pre lacks a stylus. The Windows Mobile platform is the last platform on the market to require one. I think starting in Windows Mobile 6.5, we may see a departure from the stylus completely on their OEM’s devices.

  5. TheOriginalRootbrian says:

Does the Palm Pre have a stylus?

I might just get that instead of a windows mobile PDA, since I have one already.

  6. TheOriginalRootbrian says:

I don’t believe it’s unstable when it’s jailbroken, it might be a scare spread by apple employees.

  7. VideoGuyNC says:

I’ve never been a real fan of Palm because Palm accessibility has always been an issue. Their product line has a stable reputation (in general), but their PDAs/smartphones have largely been swept under the rug in recent years.
